About Jimmy Malhan
AI & Security Thought Leader, Founder of pretense.ai and System Design Laws, Engineering Lead at Allergan Aesthetics, & former Software Development Manager at Amazon Web Services.
Jimmy is an engineering leader at heart. He builds secure systems that stay strong at scale and teams that stay steady when complexity increases. Today, he helps engineering directors, VPs, and senior leaders navigate AI adoption in a way that is both forward-thinking and grounded in security, guiding them from reactive experimentation to controlled, enterprise-ready execution.
Building Secure Engineering Systems That Scale From the Ground Up
Jimmy Malhan has a deep appreciation for what it means to build something real. For him, engineering is not just about writing code or sketching architecture diagrams. It is about designing systems that remain reliable, secure, and resilient under real-world conditions, and leading teams that perform when the pressure is highest. He treats every constraint as a design input and every failure as a lesson that strengthens both system integrity and team judgment.
Across global organizations including Amazon Web Services, Allergan Aesthetics, and HealthJoy, Jimmy has developed a reputation for building platforms that run fast, recover cleanly, and protect the data they are responsible for. He understands both the technical architecture and the operational discipline required to deliver systems that are not only scalable, but secure by design. His approach is not simply about shipping software. It is about building foundations that last, operate safely, and scale with confidence.
Helping Engineering Leaders Navigate Secure AI Adoption
Jimmy Malhan brings a practitioner’s perspective to one of the most important challenges facing engineering organizations today: adopting AI without introducing unnecessary risk. Having worked across multiple industries, he has seen firsthand where AI adoption creates friction — not just technically, but in governance, trust, and team alignment.
His focus is not on hype. It is on what it actually takes to implement AI systems in a controlled, secure, and sustainable way. Drawing on his experience building distributed systems at scale, Jimmy helps engineering directors, VPs, and senior leaders develop the frameworks needed to move from reactive experimentation to proactive, secure AI strategy. He works with leaders who want to understand not just what AI can do, but how to deploy it responsibly and lead through it with clarity.
Jimmy Malhan's Story
Jimmy Malhan began his engineering career as a software engineering intern in 2008, building a strong technical foundation across backend systems, distributed infrastructure, data pipelines, and cloud platforms. Over more than a decade, he progressed from individual contributor to senior engineer to technical leader, gaining hands-on experience designing systems that operate reliably and securely at scale.
His career has spanned some of the most well-known engineering organizations in the world. At Amazon Web Services, he led software development teams building enterprise-grade systems. At Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, he serves as Engineering Lead, overseeing complex system design and cross-team delivery in high-stakes environments.
Along the way, he co-founded AdvancePay, which was successfully acquired, and founded System Design Laws, a platform focused on helping engineers build for scale. He is also the founder of pretense.ai, where his focus is on enabling organizations to adopt AI in a way that is secure, controlled, and aligned with real-world engineering constraints. Today, Jimmy brings together his experience in systems design, leadership, and AI to help organizations move forward with confidence in an increasingly complex technological landscape.
